Miandad, Moin Khan and Basit Ali Urge Medical Care for Imran Khan

Former Pakistan cricketers Javed Miandad, Moin Khan and Basit Ali have called on the authorities to provide jailed former Pakistan captain and ex-prime minister Imran Khan with appropriate medical treatment.

Their statements come amid increasing concern within the international cricket community about Imran’s health and access to medical care while in prison. The issue gained further attention after Australian captain Pat Cummins publicly backed calls for proper medical assessment and treatment.

Pat Cummins Supports Medical Assessment

Cummins recently voiced support for former international cricket captains who had expressed concerns about Imran’s medical situation.

The Australian Test and ODI captain said he hoped the medical assessment ordered by the court would be allowed to proceed. He also stressed the importance of family members being able to visit Imran and said the former cricketer should be treated with dignity.

Cummins’ comments were notable because most earlier statements on the matter had come from retired players.

Previously, 22 former international cricket captains from different countries had written to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, asking the government to ensure that Imran received appropriate medical care.

Moin Khan Appeals to Authorities

Moin Khan, the former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter who played alongside Imran during the 1992 World Cup campaign, has also spoken out.

Moin urged government officials and prison authorities to make sure Imran receives whatever medical treatment he needs.

He also encouraged other members of the cricket community to raise their voices on the issue, describing access to proper healthcare as a fundamental right.

According to Moin, authorities should take the necessary steps to address Imran’s health concerns and ensure that he receives adequate medical attention.

Miandad Makes Emotional Statement

Batting great Javed Miandad has also expressed concern over Imran’s continued imprisonment.

While discussing the situation, Miandad became emotional and questioned why his former Pakistan teammate was still behind bars.

The former batter also spoke in support of Imran’s character and appealed for the circumstances surrounding his imprisonment to be resolved.

Miandad and Imran shared the Pakistan dressing room for several years and were members of the side that won the 1992 Cricket World Cup in Melbourne.

Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has likewise urged authorities to ensure that Imran is provided with proper medical care.

Supreme Court Orders Medical Transfer

The latest appeals follow a Supreme Court order issued on August 18 directing authorities to move Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad.

The court instructed a multidisciplinary medical board to assess and treat him. It also permitted his personal doctor and sister to remain involved in his medical care.

Despite the order, authorities subsequently took Imran to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) rather than Shifa International Hospital.

A government medical panel later examined him at PIMS and declared him medically fit. He was subsequently returned to Adiala Jail.

Imran’s family then approached the Supreme Court, claiming that authorities had not followed the court’s instructions regarding his transfer to Shifa International Hospital.

Government Denies Mistreatment Allegations

The government has rejected allegations that Imran is being denied proper healthcare or mistreated during his imprisonment.

Officials say he has been provided with medical attention and has continued to receive visitors while serving his sentence.

Despite the government’s position, Imran’s family, political party and several former international cricketers continue to demand that the Supreme Court’s directions regarding his medical care be implemented in full.
